As some of you may know, in July I had filed an RTI query with the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India regarding the reported destruction of several thousand official files and documents, ostensibly for ‘cleaning up’ of offices. As per newspaper reports, some of these files pertained to Gandhi assassination and other matters of great historical importance.
Details of my RTI and a petition circulated in this respect are available here:
I am happy to say that I have received, even though somewhat belatedly, a response from the Ministry which is attached below: (click the images to see full size)
Thanks for this initiative and efforts Purushottam Ji.
Good that a response has been recd from the govt. Thank you Purushottam for your efforts.
But the question remains what were the files considered not historically important by the present government and destroyed in such a hurry by the Modi govt. Modi has a history of destroying sensitive documents likely to implicate him or his party(RSS, BJP) as the Gujarat govt destroyed records relating to the Gujarat riot cases even while the court cases are going on and declared the destruction is a routine affair! Can the destroyed records be identified even by an investigation by an independent agency?
G Radhakrishnan , your question is very important . can we get the details of destroyed files , through RTI route ?
Through RTI we can get only what they choose to write. How to verify what were acgually destroyed?
Still it is better if somebody tried to get information

We should be ever vigilant . Fascism is slowly worming in .
You have rightly made this an issue in an effective method and compelled the govt and awakened the concerned . We should be ever vigilant against the creeping-in fascism .
This is a crime to destroy Government documents and no excuse can be given…
But I found documents and maps missing during UPA tenure… So in inquiry is immediately required…
G Radhakrishnzn
you have raised a important point. Let us think, what next.
